DCE raises security concerns over misunderstanding between Sissala, Dagaaba
Mr. Robert Bakah Wavei, Sissala West District Chief Executive has expressed concern about a lingereing misunderstanding between the Sissalas in the Buwa Traditional Area and Dagaaba in Fielmua.
He said about a week ago, he received a copied letter from the Acting President of the Buwa Traditional Council requesting the Regional Police Commander to restrain the Fielmua Area Development Association from celebrating their annual Kukur Bagr Festival.
He advised the Sissala and the Dagaaba to resort to the laid down channels of dispute resolution to resolve their differences and not to do anything to disturb the peace in the district and the Region.
Mr. Wavei was addressing members of the Sissala District Assembly at its third ordinary meeting at Gwollu on Wednesday and appealed to the conscience of stakeholders in the Buwa Area to give peace a chance.
He announced that the District Security Committee had met and taken some measures to sustain the peace and security in the area.
He mentioned the encouragement of effective collaboration between the security and the public, motivation for the security forces, provision of logistics for the security forces and registration of all alien residents, among other measures, that had been taken to maintain peace in the area.
He said the District Security Committee had also recommended joint forces patrol to reduce the smuggling of petroleum products, armed robbery and cattle rustling, especially across the border into Burkina Faso.
Mr. Wavei announced that a police station was under construction at Fielmua to facilitate the operations of the police while a similar one would be considered for Zini next year.
It would be recalled that early this year, there were some disturbances between the Sissala in Nimoro and Dagaaba in Fielmua over the ownership of land that nearly disturbed the peace in the area.
The Sissala claimed the land on which Fielmua people settled was for them while the Dagaaba in Fielmua alleged that their ancestors bought the land from the Sissala.
