Officials of School Feeding Programme asked to be transparent
Management of the School Feeding Programme (SFP) has been asked to be transparent and make information on its activities available to enable the public to appreciate its progress.
Mrs Naa Dedei Abgey, an official of the Netherlands Development Organization (SNV), capacity-building agency, who made the call, asked the management to update the public on the direction, objectives, activities and challenges of the programme.
She said this would enable Ghanaians to make inputs towards the efficient operation of the programme amidst growing concerns about its viability.
Mrs Agbey was addressing a two-day workshop on social accountability tools and mechanisms, jointly organized by the SFP and the Dutch Organization, in Kumasi.
It brought together members of the Metropolitan, Municipal and District implementation committees of the programme and selected traditional rulers.
The workshop was aimed at building the capacity of participants to help them to become responsive to the needs of the Programme as spelt out in its mission statement whilst being accountable to the public.
Topics discussed included types and concept of accountability, key principles that underpin social accountability, modes of communication and importance of budget tracking.
Mrs Agbey said the SFP is a strategic social intervention that should be supported by stakeholders for efficient delivery.
She asked members of the committees to accept criticisms and suggestions from the public.
Mr Seidu Paakunah Adamu, National Coordinator of the Programme, asked the participants to implement the best practices they had been exposed to.
