Two chemical sellers arrested for buying stolen drugs
Two Chemical Sellers at Half Assini and Jewi near Half Assini have been arrested by the police for buying large quantities of stolen drugs costing GH¢9,992.00 from the Half Assini government Hospital.
The chemical sellers, who have been granted police inquiry bail, are Eric Amihere from Half Assini and Francis Erzoah from Jewi.
The Jomoro district Police Commander, deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) John Ferguson Dzineku made this known to the Ghana News Agency at Half Assini on Saturday..
The Police Commander said sometime last month, the Hospital Administrators detected the disappearance of the drug, Zrodol Acechlofenac, from the store and reported the matter to the Police.
He said as part of the police investigations, some prescriptions were issued to hospital staff and police officers to buy the drug from chemical sellers in the area.
DSP Dzineku said a medical staff bought some of the drug, that is only supplied to hospitals, at Eric Amihere’s store at Half Assini and reported him to the police for his arrest.
According to the police during interrogation, Amihere mentioned Erzoah as the one who sold the drug to him.
He said when Erzoah was arrested, he also mentioned Anthony Ackah, a worker at the Half Assini Government Hospital, now at large, as his source of supply.
According to Erzoah, Ackah had been selling drugs to him on many occasions and therefore thought that it was part of his schedule at the hospital.
Meanwhile Ackah has been declared wanted by the Half Assini Police.
It would be recalled that three officers of the Jomoro district health Services were last year interdicted for their alleged involvement in a deal in the National Health Insurance Scheme.
