Builsa Constituency “lacks voice” in Parliament – NDC aspirant

A 32-year-old legal practitioner and aspiring candidate of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the Builsa North Constituency, Mr James Agalga, says Constituency “lacks a voice in Parliament”.

He said this was affecting development in the area and called on delegates and the people of the Builsa North Constituency to support him to win the seat for the area to reverse the trend.

The aspirant stated this in an interview with the GNA when he filed his nomination papers at the constituency office at Sandema to contest the primaries.

He is the youngest of five contestants who have filed to contest the primaries in the Constituency.

The others are Mr Timothy Atabaadek, the incumbent MP, Mr George Bavelin, Presiding Member of the Builsa District Assembly, Mr Seth Alafah and Mr Philip Azakebe.

Mr Agalga stressed that a Parliamentarian should have the ability to articulate concerns of constituents in Parliament otherwise it would be difficult to advocate and lobby for development.

He said he would bring more development to the area as MP, adding that he was not new to issues of Parliament since he had worked in Parliament before and was abreast with issues there.

Mr Agalga indicated that Builsa North had arable land and natural resources.

He expressed dismay about continued practice of certain negative cultural practices affecting women in the area, such as Female Genital Mutilation and performance of certain rituals during funerals saying he would ensure that legislations were passed to stop them.

Women, he noted, would also be empowered with micro finance and training in entrepreneurship to go into viable ventures.

The aspirant used the occasion to launch his campaign at a durbar which attracted a lot of delegates and party supporters.
