Ghana likely to regain Federal Aviation Administration Category One status by June 2012

Air Commodore Kwame Mamphey has urged staff, managements and the board of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) to reflect on the year 2011 and make new year resolutions that would see the Authority through to a successful 2012.

Speaking at GCAA end of year party at the Ghana Civil Aviation Training Academy (GATA), he commended staff for their support throughout 2011 saying; “your efforts have culminated in many achievements for the Authority including the celebration of their 25th Anniversary, and installation of various technical equipment”.

Air Cmdr Mamphey described 2011 as very successful in spite of the few challenges adding that the refurbished GCAA’s electronics training school would be managed by GATA.

He said they had not experienced any disasters at the airport and had received recommendation from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and other aviation organizations.

He said the technical review of the GCAA by the Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) towards the evaluation to regain the FAA Category one status has been completed and expressed the hope that Ghana would be able to regain its category one status by June 2012.
