Court remands farm labourer for theft of cocoa beans
A 25-year farm labourer at Nagole, in the Atwima-Mponua District of the Ashanti Region, has been remanded into prison custody by the Nyinahin Magistrate’s Court for theft of cocoa beans.
Braima Amidu pleaded guilty to the crime and would re-appear on January 16, 2012.
Police Inspector Daniel Otabil told the court presided over by Mr Sam Nibi that the complainant is a purchasing clerk of one of the licensed cocoa buying companies (LBCs) at Nagole.
At about 2200 hours on December 7, the accused and two other accomplices, on the run, broke into a shed, where the complainant was keeping the bags of cocoa bought from farmers to steal the stock.
The prosecution said someone in the neighbourhood spotted Amidu and his gang and raised the alarm.
This attracted residents who managed to arrest the accused while his two accomplices escaped.
