MMDAs asked to establish industrial estates

Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) have been urged to consider establishing industrial sites in urban and sub-urban communities to provide the needed impetus to the growth of businesses.

Ms Patience Asamoah Aidoo, Sekyere South District Manager of the Business Advisory Centre (BAC), said the move would help artisans and other youth trained in various vocations to have access to land to set up workshops.

This would end the difficulty and frustrations trainees and others eager to establish businesses are forced to go through, regarding land acquisition.

Ms Aidoo made the call when the Member of Parliament (MP) for Afigya Sekyere East, Mr Henrich David Yeboah, presented training tools and equipment to some vocational trade associations and Junior High Schools in the constituency at Wiamoase.

The items included a number of sewing machines and hair dryers, and 40 desktop computers to enhance the teaching of information communication technology.

Ms Aidoo said the BAC would assist small scale businesses to access credit to expand their operations.

She commended the Komfo Anokye Rural Bank for making available more than GH¢200,000 as credit line for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the district, last year.

She also thanked the MP for the support and appealed to him to extend his assistance to those in the shoe making, kente-weaving and other trades.

Mr Yeboah said the items, bought from his share of the MPs District Assemblies’ Common Fund, were meant to help train the youth to acquire skills to become self-employed.

He pledged to support the growth and promotion of SMEs in the district and called on the beneficiaries to put the items to good use.

Nana Sarpong Kumankuma, Chief of Wiamoase, commended the MP for the initiative and urged him to continue to help address the development challenges facing the people.
