Ghana Commercial Bank demands apology from Ejisu Juaben Municipal Assembly

The Management of the Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB) has profusely denied the assertion by the Ejisu-Juaben Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr Kwaku Afrifa Yamoah Ponko, that the bank has no tenancy agreement with the assembly.

It said it found this, both surprising and disheartening and demanded an apology and immediate retraction of the statement.

Nana John K. A. Duncan, the Public Relations Officer (PRO), insisted GCB has valid tenancy agreement with the assembly, which will run out on December 31, 2011.

They are also current on their rent payment and operation fees.

Mr Yamoah Ponko had told the assembly at its meeting at Ejisu that the bank had refused to renew the tenancy pact on the assembly’s property it is occupying.

Additionally, GCB had since year 2006, defaulted in the rent payment and refused to be part of any social activity organised by the Municipal assembly.

Nana Duncan produced official documents and receipts to disprove the MCE’s claim.

He said the Bank and the Assembly had already held talks about the purchase of the building.

Negotiations have, however, stalled over the pricing of the building.

Nana Duncan asked customers of the Bank in the area to remain calm and not to panic.
