Dormaa Traditional Council to raise GH¢300,000 for creation of local industries
Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyeman Badu II, president of the Dormaa Traditional Council has said the council would raise GH¢300,000 during the Easter period for the establishment of local industries in the area.
Osagyefo Agyeman Badu said this at the council’s 2011 annual get-together in Dormaa Ahenkro adding that he and the Dormaahemaa Nana Akosua Frima Dwaben II had mobilized GH¢150,000 of the amount earmarked for the 2012 Easter fund-raising.
The ceremony was attended by chiefs of the traditional area, heads of departments, citizens of the area and media practitioners.
Osagyefo Agyeman Badu appealed to stakeholders in the communities under his jurisdiction to gird their loins and donate generously towards the fund and help provide jobs for the youth.
The business fund, he said, when established would provide a revolving source for the funding of many factories at vantage points in the traditional area to ensure the provision of jobs.
Even though Osagyefo Agyeman Badu did not indicate the kind of factories to be established, he stressed the provision of jobs for the youth should not remain the sole responsibility of government but rather was a shared target of all stakeholders including the private sector.
The annual get-together also saw 40 Senior High School (SHS) and 30 tertiary students receiving bursaries worth GH¢50,000 from the Dormaaman Education Endowment Fund (DORMEEF) for the 2011/2012 academic year.
The fund established by the Dormaahene to assist the growth of education in the area, has so far assisted 1,140 students since its inception in 2000.
The Dormaahene appealed to the beneficiaries to learn hard to justify the huge investment in them, adding that it was incumbent on them to brace themselves up for worthy leadership in the future.
Osagyefo Agyeman Badu appealed to politicians, particularly those of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and New Patriotic Party (NPP) to agree to play by the rules of multi-party democracy by tolerating divergent views and departing from the use of vulgar language before, during and after the 2012 general election.
The Dormaahene acknowledged the role of government, the judiciary, the media, churches, Moslems, traditional leaders, workers, farmers and the youth in nation building and urged them to widen their scope of hard-work and patriotism for a better Ghana.
