CPP hit by more defections in Ashanti
The Convention People’s Party (CPP) continues to be hit by defection as 250 CPP executives in the Ashanti Region, announced that they have joined Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom’s Progressive Peoples Party (PPP).
The group was led by the Regional Chairman, Dr Theophilus Kwofie, at a ceremony held at the Ghana National Association of Teachers Hall in Kumasi on Tuesday, to join the new party .
He said members of the group were inspired by the vision, dynamism and leadership qualities of the founder of PPP, Dr Nduom.
Dr Kwofie said the PPP was a credible alternative to the ruling National Democratic Congress and the New Patriotic Party, which have been dominant during the last two decades.
He said the group would work hard and establish a strong foothold for the PPP in the region.
Dr Nduom officially welcomed the defectors and inaugurated the PPP’s interim regional officers to work towards the December General Election.
He asked them to go into serious political education campaign to broaden the PPP’s support base.
Dr Nduom said as a mass democratic party, the PPP would bring significant socio-economic transformation to make live comfortable for Ghanaians, when given the mandate to lead the country in 2012.
He said the party would initiate measures to fight poverty through job creation and improve the quality health care and education.
Dr Nduom advised the party’s loyalists to remain disciplined and civil in their conduct as the struggle for political power gathered momentum.
