UEW matriculates 3,336 students to undertake higher education by distance learning
The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) Professor Akwasi Asabere-Ameyaw has said that the mission of the distance Education programmes of the University is to make quality education at all levels more accessible and relevant to the learning needs of Ghanaians.
Professor Asabere-Ameyaw said this at the matriculation of 3,336 students from the Southern Sector to undertake Diploma and post-Diploma in Basic Education at the University by distance learning.
They will take three years to complete the course.
The Southern Sector comprises learning centers in the Western, Central Greater Accra, Volta and Eastern Regions.
He said Distance Education was becoming widely accepted as a means for higher education to provide broader access and achieved cost efficiency.
The VC announced that a total of 4,289 students from the Northern Sector will be matriculated on January 14, 2012 at the Kumasi Campus.
Prof. Asabere-Ameyaw told the students that at their study centers, they will be meeting monthly with their tutors who had been carefully selected and trained to support them.
He encouraged them to attend the monthly tutorial sessions regularly and take all lessons serious, adding that they should also do their assignments regularly and have them submitted on time.
“Note that the purpose of assignments, class exercises, quizzes and examinations is to develop your skills and to measure your academic progress”.
The VC reminded the students that their success should be seen a motivating factor to other teachers who were yet to decide on enrolling on the programme.
