Tema Development Corporation to pay landowners compensation
Mr Joe Abbey, Managing Director of the Tema Development Corporation (TDC), says the Corporation will pay the necessary compensation to deserving landowners.
Mr Abbey who made the pledge at the Corporation’s Tripartite Committee’s encounter with the media in Tema, said the Corporation was therefore awaiting the recommendation of the Ministerial Committee on Compensation appointed by the Ministry of Water Resource, Workers and Housing to roll out payment plans.
He assured landowners who have been denied the use of their lands that TDC would give them compensation but was quick to add that no compensation would be paid in respect of unauthorised structures demolished by the TDC Taskforce.
Mr Abbey expressed grave concern about judgment debts slapped on the Corporation by the law courts in respect of land cases between TDC and affected landowners.
“If we don’t take care these judgment debts will collapse the Corporation.”
Mr Abbey said the corporation was appealing against a GH¢60,000 judgement debt.
Mr Abbey disclosed that as the Corporation turns 60 years this year, plans were underway to embark on a new face of development that is redevelopment/regeneration schemes to ensure that the Tema Township was revitalised.
