47 LESDEP trainees in Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai receive start-up kits

Forty-seven (47) unemployed young people trained under the Local Enterprises and Skills Development Programme (LESDEP) in the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai District have been presented with tools and equipment to start their own businesses.

These include mobile phone repairing machines, gas cylinders, hair dryers, barbering equipment and sterilizers, sewing machines and lubricants as well as cooking utensils.

Two mini-KIA trucks were also presented to aid those engaged in agro-processing to transport food crops from farm gates to the processing centres.

The trainees were graduating after receiving skills training in barbering, dressmaking, hairdressing, catering, cellular phone repairs and agro-processing for periods ranging from four weeks to six months.

Mr Joe Adansi-Bondah, the District Chief Executive (DCE), said this was part of an aggressive push to bring down unemployment particularly among the youth.

He said the next batch of trainees would soon complete their apprenticeship and would also receive similar start-up kits. The training came at no cost to the beneficiaries.

Mr Adansi-Bondah reiterated government’s determination to pursue policies and interventions that would help make life comfortable for the people in line with its “Better Ghana” agenda.

He urged the youth in the district to take advantage of LESDEP to acquire vocations that would make them economically self-supporting.

Mr Japhet Duga, Western Regional Coordinator of LESDEP, said the training was being implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Employment and Social Welfare and other agencies for efficiency.
