Rotary International says theme for 2012-13 is “Peace Through Service”
The Rotary International (RI) on January 16, 2012 picked “Peace Through Service” as its theme for the year 2012-2013.
The theme was unveiled by the RI President-elect Sakuji Tanaka during the opening plenary session of the 2012 International Assembly – a training event for incoming Rotary district governors – held in San Diego, California, USA.
“Peace, in all of the ways that we can understand it, is a real goal and a realistic goal for Rotary,” Sakuji Tanaka is quoted as saying on Rotary’s website.
According to the RI president-elect who is a businessman based in Tokyo, peace is not something that can only be achieved through agreements, by governments, or through heroic struggles but “it is something that we can find and that we can achieve, every day and in many simple ways.”
“No matter how we use, or understand the word, Rotary can help us to achieve it,” he added.
Rotary International is an organization of service clubs known as Rotary Clubs and its stated purpose is to bring together business and professional leaders to provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world.
