CPP members should commit resources to build party – Samia Nkrumah
Ms Samia Yaba Nkrumah, National Chairman of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP), has invited “true and loyal” members of the party to commit resources both financially and materially to support its activities.
“We must share in the burden of financing the Party to promote its smooth running. We need to stand up in dignity and contribute their bit to the growth and vibrancy of the party. The time where an individual is seen to be the sole financier should be a thing of the past and no longer should any individual be seen to own the party.”
She was addressing a meeting with the party’s constituency executives in the Ashanti Region, in Kumasi on Saturday.
Kwabre East and Obuasi were the only constituencies out of the 39 not represented.
The meeting was to help disprove speculations about defection of the constituency officers to the Progressive People’s Party and to also whip up enthusiasm in grass-root organization to assure the CPP of electoral victory the coming December elections.
Ms Samia said contrary to “the lies and exaggeration”, very few individuals had left the party and praised the executives for their loyalty and resilience in the face of the challenges.
She said she was convinced that those who had abandoned the CPP never believed in its ideology.
The future of the party, she claimed was bright, adding that, the CPP has been presented with a wonderful opportunity in 2012 to redeem itself.
Mr Ivor Greenstreet, the General Secretary, described as “false” the impression being created that CPP members were defecting in droves and said all genuine members in the regions remained with the Party.
He said the party’s leadership was concentrating on organizing the grass-root and sponsoring parliamentary candidates for the 2012 elections.
Mr Greenstreet said a lot of sympathizers had pledged financial and logistics support and called on members to pay their dues to improve the financial standing of the party.
Other speakers were; Ms Susan Adu Amankwaa, first Vice Chairman, Mr Abu Fokor, National Youth Organiser and Nii Akonfrah, Communications Director.
