I will unite North-Tongu NDC and increase presidential votes – Ablakwa

Mr Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, a Deputy Minister of Information and newly elected National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for North Tongu, on Saturday said his focus was to re-unite the Party and traditional areas in the Constituency.

“My major work now is to unite the Party and our people in the Constituency. Eight of us contested, so I have to work hard to bring everybody on board to increase our presidential votes,” he told the Ghana News Agency briefly after results of the election were announced.

Mr Okudzeto Ablakwa polled 157 out of a total of 405 votes cast to beat seven other contestants.

Mr Charles Hodogbey, the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) had 26 votes, Mr Christopher Kofi Eleblu, 111, Mr Kwami Alorvi, 56, Mr James Cudjoe Agornyra, 31, Mr Lawson Kwesi Gakpey, 16, Mr Cosmos Etse Asem, five, and Mr Christian Akaho-Tay, three votes.

Mr Okudzeto Ablakwa who was visibly happy and resplendent in a well designed NDC white apparel, said he was going to work hard to retain the parliamentary seat for the NDC and increase presidential votes for the Party.

The election was characterized by intermittent misunderstandings which necessitated the alertness of armed policemen who were there to ensure law and order.

The Police found it a bit tough controlling the huge crowd especially when the ballots were about to be counted.

As the tension was building up, the Police drove the media away and prevented them from witnessing the counting of the ballots.

The voting started at 1300 hours instead of 0900 hours.
