Pray for us to bring the Cup home – Black Stars
Members of the Black Stars team have called on Ghanaians at home and beyond to offer special prayers for them to annex the ultimate cup at the on-going African Cup of Nations in Gabon-Equatorial Guinea.
Meanwhile the players have collectively expressed their commitment and dedication towards winning the ultimate Cup to bring the smiles to the faces of the football loving Ghanaians who have waited for the past 30 years in the ‘wonderland” for the Cup.
John Mensah, captain of the Stars told GNA Sports in an interview in Franceville when the when Vice President, John Dramani Mahama paid a courtesy call on the team at the Olympic Village at Franceville, Gabon on Sunday.
Vice President Mahama led a delegation to encourage and lend support to the Stars to win the Cup at the on-going Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.
Captain Mensah said the Head Coach and his assistants were doing everything possible to ensure the players are in top shape for convincing victories in all the matches.
The Black Stars would begin their campaign in the tournament on Tuesday, January 24, against Botswana before later encounters with Mali and Guinea all in the Group D.
“We have done our home work and will correct all the mistakes that denied us the opportunity to win the Cup two years ago in Angola.” The Black Stars’ skipper added.
Midfield ‘general’ ,Sulley Muntari also told the GNA Sports that football was about team work, and for which they have comparative advantage over their opponents and gave the assurance that Ghanaians would be given something to cheer about in the tournament.
“We have the players and we as well have the character and attitude to win the Cup and all we need from Ghanaians is good and dedicated prayers to bring the cup home.Muntari added.
Anthony Annan said “Ghanaians have been hungry for the Cup for the past 30 years and we shall do everything possible to let them have it, although we have a lot of hurdles to clear in the next three weeks.”
The entire team looked battle-ready as they moved on in unison to assure the Vice President of success in the tournament.
