Government will not derail political timetable – John Mahama

John Mahama - Vice President

Vice President John Dramani Mahama on Tuesday said the government would not do anything that would derail the country’s political timetable this year.

“The government will ensure that this year’s general election comes on clean and peacefully, just like we experienced in the past elections,” he said when members of the Institute of Public Relations (IPR) called on him at the Castle, Osu.

The members were at the Castle to present a Public Relations Book of peace to the Vice President to sign and to invite him to their 40th Anniversary celebration this year.

The book of peace would give individuals, groups, political parties and party supporters the opportunity to exhibit their commitment and dedication towards ensuring a peaceful, free and fair general election in December.

Vice President Mahama said the government would institute measures that would ensure that this year’s election would be the most peaceful the country had ever held.

He expressed satisfaction at the participation of IPR in the politics as that would help manage and disseminate vital information for a peaceful election.

“We will not do anything that will endanger the peace and unity this country has experienced over the years and I am particularly happy that IPR has added its voice to ensuring peace and unity in the country’s elections,” he added.

Major Albert Don-Chebe (rtd), the President of IPR who led the delegation, said the Book of Peace formed part of their 40th Anniversary celebration to educate the public against the use of unprintable words, particularly during the campaign period.
