University teachers to receive salary arrears by February 29
The University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) will receive Single Spine salary arrears by Wednesday, February 29, 2012.
This was agreed at a meeting facilitated by the Ministry of Education for stakeholders to agree on how to resolve the salary impasse which has resulted in some public universities resorting to strike action.
The meeting was attended by the Auditor-General, Officials from the Ministry of Finance, Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) and executives of UTAG from the various public universities.
Dr Anthony Simons, National President of UTAG, said considering the interventions of the Chairman of Vice Chancellors, Ghana, and the Minister in Charge of Tertiary Education, UTAG had rescinded the decision to embark on the strike action as scheduled.
While advising the University of Cape-Coast to consider the current action and go back to the classroom, Dr Simons expressed UTAG’s displeasure with respect to the delay in the payment of the Single-Spine salary arrears and noted that if the 29th February deadline was not met the Association wöuld not hesitate to advise itself.
