Government puts in place policies to transform educational system – Chief of Staff

Mr John Henry Martey Newman, the Chief of Staff has said the government had put in place pragmatic policies and programs to transform the educational system.

This is to help equip the youth with the requisite knowledge, skills and attitudes that will adequately prepare them for the task of future national development.

Mr Newman mentioned some of the policies and programs as provision of school infrastructure at the Senior High Schools (SHS), introduction of motivation package for teachers in rural areas and supply of furniture for basic schools.

Others include free school uniforms for pupils in deprived areas and increase in the capitation grant and eradication of schools under trees.

Mr Newman said this in an address at the 45th Anniversary and Speech and Prize Giving Day of Nkwatia Presbyterian SHS at Kwahu-Nkwatia in the Kwahu East District.

The programme was under the theme: “Empowering the youth for national development through quality secondary education”.

He said the government recognized the importance of SHS education and had ensured that the requisite facilities were provided for pupils from the basic level to have easy access to SHS education.

Mr Newman said the district over the past three years had benefited from about 107 physical projects including education structures, health facilities and water and sanitation facilities among others.
