Ghana’s Akufo-Addo to deliver 2012 Oppenheimer Lecture, after Paul Kagame, Johnson-Sirleaf

The 2012 presidential candidate of Ghana’s main opposition party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo-Addo will deliver the 2012 Oppenheimer Lecture, according to organisers, the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), a British research institute.

Nana Addo’s lecture will be on the theme “The future of democracy in Africa and the Arab Spring”, the IISS says.

According to the institute, the lecture will be chaired by Dr John Chipman, Director-General and Chief Executive of the IISS and it will take place in the Lee Kuan Yew Conference Room at Arundel House, London February 29, 2012.

The IISS has been hosting the Oppenheimer Lecture series, delivered by eminent African personalities, since 2006.

Mr Paul Kagame, President of the Republic of Rwanda delivered the 2010 edition while Mr Trevor Ncube, Chief Executive, Mail & Guardian Media Group of South Africa delivered the 2007 lecture.

Liberian President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf gave the 2006 Oppenheimer Lecture.

The IISS was founded in 1958 in the UK and it is the world’s leading authority on political-military conflict. It’s interest is on how to maintain civilised international relations in the nuclear age.
