Court jails ex-staff of NHIS four years for stealing
Philip Kweku Tetteh, unemployed who stole three public address systems valued at GH¢37,166 belonging to the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) has been sentenced to four years imprisonment by an Accra Circuit Court.
Tetteh was convicted on his own plea.
Police Chief Inspector J.K Anim, the prosecutor told the court presided over by Mrs Audrey Korkuvie-Tay that the complainant was the Co-ordinator of NHIS, North Ridge in Accra.
Chief Inspector Anim said Tetteh worked with the NHIS as a cleaner but abandoned his post.
The prosecutor said Tetteh detected that three of the public address system of the scheme, which were kept at the Secretariat had been stolen.
Chief Inspector Anim said the theft could not be linked to Tetteh because he was no longer working with the scheme.
He said on February 1, Tetteh visited the premises and when leaving, he was spotted with one of the public address system cables.
When quizzed, he admitted stealing the cable, and was subsequently arrested and handed over to the Police, where he confessed stealing three of the public address systems and led the personnel to retrieve the items.
