Minister advises Ghanaian youth to avoid immorality
Mr Enoch T. Mensah, Minister of Employment and Social Welfare, has advised the youth especially students, to avoid immorality and other negative practices that could affect their development.
He asked them to use “the power of education to transform their lives and contribute meaningfully to national development.”
These were contained in a speech read on behalf of Mr Mensah by Dr Dominic Tealora, Director of Statistics, Research, Information, Management and Public Relations of the Ministry of Education (MOE), at the 21st Anniversary/Third Speech and Prize-giving Day of Enyan Denkyira Senior High Technical School at the weekend.
Speaking on the theme; “Community Schools and Global Challenges, Solution Through Community Participation”, Mr Mensah, who is also acting Ministers of Education, called on citizens of Enyan Denkyira to complement efforts by Government, to improve teaching and learning.
Professor Jophus Anamuah-Mensah, former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Education, Winneba, called for the setting up of community technical schools, to address the development gap between urban and rural areas, and reminded Ghanaians that modern development is based on science and technology.
He also advocated the formation of guidance and counselling units in schools, to improve academic performance and discipline.
The Headmaster of the School, Mr Jacob Godwin Amissah, said the educational institution was able to attain success due to discipline, hard work, effective supervision, guidance and counselling.
Mr Amissah said the school needed accommodation for its staff on campus, administrative block, classrooms, school bus, library, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and computers.
He appealed to the Government to release part of the GETFund for the completion of a two-storey classroom block being built by the Parents-Teacher Association (PTA) of the school.
Mr Amissah appealed to Government, the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service, to grant the school boarding house status.
