Under-aged driver sentenced 10 months imprisonment

Quansah Abraham, a 22 year-old driver was on Thursday sentenced to ten months jail term for three separate traffic offences.

Abraham who had not attained the required age of 25, before engaging in commercial driving, pleaded guilty to all the charges of driving without license, under age driving, and over speeding.

The Cape Coast Circuit Court where he was arraigned, also banned him from driving for a period of two months and confiscated his license.

Chief Inspector Samuel Obeng Addo told the court presided over by Mrs Florence Kai Otu that on March 14, Quansah who was driving a KIA taxi cab at Akumfi Ayisam near Mankessim was stopped at a check point for over speeding.

He said the personnel of the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) detected he was driving at 65 kilometers per hour instead of the expected 50 kilometres and when the police asked for his driving license he could not produce it but later sent a photo copy of the original license which indicated that he was not matured enough to drive a commercial vehicle.

Chief Inspector Addo said after investigation Quansah was charged with the offences.
