Court jails driver for operating with expired driving license

A driver arrested by the police for carrying an expired driving license has been sentenced to two weeks imprisonment by a Kumasi Circuit Court.

Isaac Amissah was in addition ordered to pay a fine of GH¢360.00 and in default serve another three months in jail.

He pleaded guilty to the offence.

Police Inspector Sampson Kwaku Frimpong told the court presided over by Justice D.W.P. Amedior that Amissah was arrested on March 19.

He was driving a bus from Kumasi towards Ntonso and on reaching a toll booth erected at Aboaso, police officers there asked him to produce his driving license.

The prosecution said when he brought it out it was found to have expired since September 11, 2010.

The court sentenced another driver, Albert Kumah, to a fine of GH¢360.00 for driving a vehicle with worn-out tyres and dysfunctional tail light.

He would serve six months prison term if he is unable to pay the money.
