“Ghana needs peace to progress”

Rev Dr Samuel Ayete-Nyampong, Chairperson of Akuapem Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana has expressed concerned about  the politics of vengeance, which has taken over the country.

He said it was unfortunate that hatred had taken over the body politics of the country, which is posing a serious threat to national cohesion and peace.

The Chairman of the Presbytery said what Ghana needs between now and December is peace and reconciliation to facilitate the development agenda.

Rev Ayete-Nyampong made the observation in a sermon on Good Friday at the Christ Congregation of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana at Abiriw to commemorate the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.

He said Ghana cannot afford to lose the prevailing peace and therefore urged politicians to put an end to the insults and name calling since it is sharply deepening division in the country.

Rev Ayete-Nyampong said the main purpose of Jesus Christ coming to the earth is to reconcile man with God through the cross after sin had separated mankind from the Lord.

Rev Ayete-Nyampong therefore urged Ghanaians to forgive each other irrespective of the offence and see themselves as one people.

He said if politicians, church leaders and other opinion leaders in the society should forgive each other, the current political tension would be reduced and the country would experience total peace before, during and after the general election.

Rev Ayete-Nyampong said the current reports of violence at the various biometric registration centres should be a wakeup call to every peace loving Ghanaian that something need to be done as early as possible.

He described Ghana as one of the peaceful countries in the world, adding that the political turmoil experiencing in some African countries could have been avoided if governments had ensured good governance and accountability.
