CPP says GFA finally “seen light” on Kwesi Appiah’s appointment as Stars coach

The Convention People’s Party (CPP) has congratulated James Kwasi Appiah on his appointment as the Black Stars head coach.

A statement signed by Nii Armah Akomfrah, Director of Communications of the Party copied to GNA Sports on Thursday said the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has finally ‘seen the light’ and urged the football governing body against discriminating as far as the terms of the coach’s services are concerned.

“We hope the GFA has finally seen the light and accepts that as a country we are capable of managing football.  We hope the GFA will see the light also when it comes to remuneration and will not discriminate against him and seek to award him a lesser package on the grounds that he is a Ghanaian.”

Describing Appiah as  a great footballing son of the nation, the statement added that his elevation will also serve as an encouragement to the younger generation.

“The appointment also carries a strong message to young Ghanaians and future generations that we certainly have the right to manage or mismanage our affairs.

“The appointment is very much in line with what we believe the core values of our society should be based on – a high sense of community and a development process based on self-reliance,” the statement concluded.

Appiah was last Monday named as the substantive coach of the Black Stars, replacing Serbian Goran Stevanovic who was fired last month following the Stars fourth placing at the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.

The 51-year old has previously served as Assistant coach of the Black Stars since 2008.
