Half Assini residents want biometric registration exercise extended

A large number of unregistered people at the Adowenzo Electoral Area at Half Assini in the Jomoro district have appealed to the EC to extend the exercise to enable them to register.

According to them they could not register despite several attempts because the printer at the registration Centre developed a fault after only three days, compelling the suspension of the exercise at the area.

Mr Joseph Ndede Ackah Junior, one of the people who not register, said when he visited the centre to register on the fourth day, he was told by the registration officials that the printer had developed a fault and had been sent to Accra for repairs.

Madam Grace Ndah, also a victim, told the Ghana News Agency that when she went to the Centre to register on the sixth day, she was told that the machine has not been brought back from Accra.

The exercise officially ended in the area on Friday, April 13, leaving many people unregistered, she said.

The Jomoro District Electoral Officer, Mr Kwabena Asante in an interview with the GNA, confirmed the story.

Mr Asante said the printers at New Town, New Kabenlasuazo, Elubo and Half Assini developed faults and have been sent to Accra for repairs.

He could not say when the printers would be brought back.
