Officials of Ghana Immigration and Customs burnt to death after car accident

Two Immigration Officers and a Customs Officer were burnt to death when their vehicle caught fire after an accident near Elubo on Friday.

They are Mr Albert Sowah, 58, Customs Officer at the Elubo border, Hanna Afful, 28, an Immigration Officer also at the Elubo border and Mr Daniel Owusu, an Immigration Officer based in Accra.

The Jomoro District Police Commander, Superintendent of Police, John Fugerson Dzineku made this known to the Ghana News Agency at Half Assini on Saturday.

He said Mr Owusu visited his wife, Hannah Afful, stationed at the Elubo border on Friday, April 27 and asked Mr Sowah to give them a lift to the outskirts of the town.

The Police Commander said on their way, the Benz car, being driven by Mr Sowah, ran into a stationary car at a washing bay.

He said after the accident the Benz car, which uses gas, burst into flame and burnt Mr Sowah and Madam Afful, who were occupying the front seats, beyond recognition.

According to the Police Commander, Owusu, who was at the back seat died at the Elubo Health Centre due to the severe burns he received.

The bodies have been deposited at the Half Assini government hospital mortuary for autopsy, while police investigations continue, he said.

    Oh, very very sad. this is not the first time I have read about such accidents, cars running into parked vehicles in the road. Why is the police chief not enforcing a strict law to avoid such behavior which is causing precious lives. Oh, Ghana, over 50 yrs post colonialism, nothing seems to be changing in the country, precious lives are being lost every day due to lack of common sense and effective leadership! sad..
