Political football gala fixed for May 13
Pro-Image Communications, a media firm has put together a football gala to feature politicians, religious leaders and ex-Black Star players with the aim of promoting political tolerance, peace and unity before, during and after the general elections.
The event dubbed “Political Tolerance Football Gala 2012” is being organized in collaboration with the National Sports for All Associations Ghana (NASFAAG), Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) with support from the National Sports Authority (NSA) under the theme: “Promoting political tolerance, peace and unity in Ghana before, during and after the 2012 general elections” will take place on Sunday, May 13 at the Accra Sports Stadium.
According to the organizers, all the political parties in Ghana have been put together in a team known as “Political Stars United” with each party contributing six key players including the chairpersons to play against a select side from MUSIGA, the Media, NASFAAG, Ex-Black Stars Players and Religious leaders in an all play all gala to promote peace and unity in the country.
Former Vice President, Alhaji Aliu Mahama commended the organizers for the wonderful initiative and urged all to embrace the spirit of tolerant before, during and after the elections to maintain peace and unity.
He lauded the timing of the event, especially after the biometric registration was dogged by pockets of alleged disturbances and violence at some centre.
Isaac Vanderpuije, Deputy Greater Accra Regional Minister who launched the programme, described the event as relevant and opportune and encouraged all to work towards achieving a peaceful atmosphere in the country at ‘this critical period’ in the country’s political history.
Nathaniel Ebo Nsarko, Chief Executive of Pro-Image Communications said the event will help conscientise Ghanaians on the need to accept divergent views irrespective of one’s political affiliation.
The Political Stars United team will feature the likes of Asiedu Nketia – General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress, Kwaku Afriyie (Sir John) – General Secretary, New Patriotic Party, Hassan Ayariga – Presidential aspirant, People’s National Convention, Nii Lantei Vanderpuije – NDC, Bright Akwetey – Convention Peoples Party and the likes of musicians Obuor, Samini, Tinny, Castro, Nana Boroo, VIP, Daddy Lumba, Lucky Mensah to feature for the MUSIGA team.
The Religious team has the likes of Bishop Charles Agyin Asare, Reverend Gideon Titi Offei, Tony Asamaoh Boateng and Bishop Daniel Obinim and a group from the Muslim community amongst others.
