Ghanaian author Kuenyehia launches book on entrepreneurship
A textbook on Ghanaian Entrepreneurship titled: “Kuenyehia on Entrepreneurship,” with real life success stories, was launched in Accra on Tuesday.
The 674-page book is the first to examine stories of Ghanaians who have been successful in their businesses.
Mr Elikem Nutifafa Kuenyehia, the author said he was challenged by his lecturer to write a book on entrepreneurship, and his vision was that every Ghanaian household should have a copy.
He said though the book was in English, it would be translated into Akan as well as introduce the audio type in both languages for better understanding by the ordinary man.
Mr Kuenyehia said the 14-Chapter book outlined the history of entrepreneurship relating to Ghana, who an entrepreneur was, idea generation, researches on businesses that were successful, the pros and cons of buying and selling, which were beneficial to the birth and growth of an enterprise.
“Kuenyehia on Entrepreneurship is a must read for would be entrepreneurs, start-up entrepreneurs who want to sharpen their entrepreneurial skills and anyone who want to actively engage in the birth and growth of an enterprise,” Sam Jonah, a Ghanaian businessman noted.
He advised that no-one should start a business without seeking ideas from experienced individuals.
Nii Ayikwei Parkes, Senior Editor of Flipped Eye Publishing, said the textbook on entrepreneurship would not only be the beginning of Mr Kuenyehia but for other writers as well as those who need to have a vision beyond just what they wrote.
“Our place in the world would depend on what we write about ourselves,” he noted.
He appealed to Ghanaians to cultivate the habit of reading books written by Ghanaians, to encourage young people to develop the habit of writing and publishing their own books to promote the country’s rich literature globally.
Mr Kuenyehia was Head of Corporate Services and Legal at Standard Trust Bank Ghana Limited (now UBA Ghana Limited) and part of the team that started UBA in Ghana.
He also worked in the international banking and finance group of Linklaters LLP and was seconded to Barclays Capital as a Global Loans Lawyer.
Mr Kuenyehia is an adjunct lecturer at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration where he teaches Entrepreneurship.
He was named Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum in 2010, and one of ‘Africa’s 40 under-40 Achievers by The Network Journal.
Mr Kuenyehia received the Millennium Excellence Awards’ Young Professional in 2006.
