National Lottery Authority to generate GH¢6m revenue weekly by end of 2012
The National Lotto Authority (NLA) is poised to become the leading revenue generating institution in the country, Dr Scali Agodzo, Board Chairman of the Authority has said in Accra.
He pointed out that, currently the NLA was generating GH¢5 million weekly and determined to increase it to GH¢6 million by the end of the year.
Dr Agodzo was launching the NLA’s 50th anniversary celebration and the out-dooring of its anniversary logo on Friday.
He said the NLA had the capacity to grow to become the nation’s ‘cash cow’ and would make itself visible in terms of its corporate social responsibility as well as the country’s developmental agenda.
However, Dr Agodzo said that would depend on the agreement and discussions with the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning and other stakeholders.
Dr Agodzo therefore, tasked the staff of the authority to rededicate themselves and continue to work harder, saying that “If the authority is healthy, you will also be catered for.”
He said it was vital for the staff to know the aims and objectives of the NLA to enable them to work hard to achieve their targets.
“As we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the NLA, it is good for all of us to dwell on the rich experiences that would drive us forward,” he added.
Dr Agodzo noted that the lottery industry was not the best, hence the need to sensitise it by educating the public not to engage in illegal lottery.
He said the NLA, established in 1962, had not been able to realise its dreams as set out by the late Dr Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s First President therefore, government had to review it in 2008 through Act 722.
Dr Agodzo said the NLA would soon roll out unique and exciting games to boost sales.
Mr Kojo Andah, Director-General, NLA, was happy the NLA had chalked successes in their operations over the years and commended staff for their hard work.
As part of the celebration, the NLA would embark on a health walk, health screening of staff, undertake blood donation exercise, donate to some institutions and hand over a community library to the people of Adenta.
