Political interference hits management of Disability Fund in Upper West
The Upper West Regional branch of the Ghana Society for the Physically Disabled (GSPD) has complained about political interference in the management of the Disability Fund at the level of the District Assemblies.
The Association has, therefore, appealed to the Regional Minister, Alhaji Amidu Sulemana to help address the situation
They made the appeal when they paid a courtesy call on the Minister to welcome him to office and also introduce to him the new executives of the society.
Mr Hamidu Haruna, the Regional Director of the Department of Social Welfare, who led the group to meet the Minister stressed on the need for the Assemblies to support persons with disabilities who were currently undergoing ICT training in Wa.
He advocated for the formation of the Association of Mothers of Children with Disabilities so that they could be supported.
Mr Haruna said it was his wish to see the Disability Fund being used as a tool for poverty reduction in the region.
Mr Felix Tierfaar, Chairman of the GSPD, said currently members of the society hold their meetings in verandas and pleaded with the Regional Minister to help them with an office accommodation so that they could hold their meetings there.
Alhaji Sulemana assured them that he would impress on the District Chief Executives (DCEs) to see to it that they avoid all interference in the management of the disability fund and also ensure that their rights were respected by all.
