High court jurors call-off strike

Chief Justice Georgina Wood

High Court jurors in Kumasi have called off their strike after the payment of their allowances that had been in arrears for some time now.

They had refused to sit on this year’s assizes cases until they had received their monies.

The Ghana News Agency (GNA) learnt it took the intervention of the Chief Justice, Mrs Georgina Theodora Wood, to get their demands met.

She is said to have directed the Supervising High Court Judge, Justice Godwin B. Batu to do everything pay the jurors and get them back to work.

The action of jurors amounted to contempt of court and they could have been arrested to face the law.
