Tragedy struck residents of Apowa in the Ahanta West District of the Western Region last Saturday when a 19-year old student, Kofi Braimah was stabbed to death by an orange seller.
The suspect, Miss Rosita Quarshie, 18, is currently in police custody at the Kwesimintsim Police Cells assisting in investigations.
The Kwesimintsim District Police Commander, Superintendent Agamga Aklogo Yakubu confirmed the tragic incident to the Ghana News Agency on Sunday.
The police said Miss Quarshie was selling oranges at Apowa around 2000hours in the evening of Saturday July 28, when Braimah snatched her mobile phone from her.
The police said the deceased returned the phone to the owner some hours later.
The police said Braimah then took one of the oranges she was selling and started peeling it but Miss Quarshie asked him to stop.
The District Police Commander said the deceased continued the act and a quarrel ensued between them.
Mr. Yakubu said Braimah used the knife he was using to peel the orange to flaunt the face of Miss Quarshie and that infuriated her and she picked another knife to defend herself.
Mr. Yakubu said during the hot exchanges between them, Miss Quarshie stabbed Braimah on the chest with the knife and the deceased fell down unconscious.
Braimah was sent to the Effia-Nkwanta Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
