Chinese medical team aids Korle Bu Teaching Hospital

The China Medical Team on Wednesday donated medical equipment worth $300,000 to the Korle Bu Teaching hospital to improve its facilities and technology.

The equipment is made up of one suit of ultrasound system, 20 bottles of coupling agent, one set of Gastrofiberscope, two sets of colon fiberscope, two sets of cold light source, 20 pieces of cold light source buld, one suit of echocardiography, one suit of ventilator, eight sets of insight monitor, one set of ultrasonic atomisation, five sets of syringe pump, and one set of peritoneoscope.

Mr Gao Wenzhi, Economic Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Accra, who made the presentation, said the donation was the third by the team to equip the hospital with new batch of modern equipment.

He said as the biggest hospital in the country, it needed modern medical equipment and advanced technology to improve its social significance.

Mr Gao said the presentation was to restructure and upgrade bilateral trade and economic corporation, strengthen the bond and broaden the basis of shared interest with Ghana.

He indicated that the team had been in the country and working with the hospital for the past seven months and had played a good role in serving the patients.

Mr Gao gave the assurance that with the corporation between the two institutions, the health care condition of the people would be highly improved and more Ghanaians would benefit from it.

Mr Sylvester Anemana, Chief Director, Ministry of Health, who received the equipment on behalf of the Health Minister, expressed gratitude to the team and said government over the years had benefited from various aspects of development.

He said the presentation, the third by the team, signified the on-going partnership between both countries to develop both human and natural resources.

Mr Anemana assured the team that the equipment would be put to good use for the benefit of patients.

Nii Otu Nartey, Chief Executive Officer of the Hospital, noted that the equipment would be used to set up a cardiology department as well as to train more experts.
