Over 400 Ghanaian students eye MTN’s GH¢10m Merit Award scheme
MTN Ghana Foundation’s GH¢10 million Merit Award Scheme launched in May this year, has received a total of 472 entries from the ten regions of the country at the end of June.
The awards scheme will afford 10 brilliant but needy students, who have applied to the 10 pre-selected public tertiary institutions nationwide.
Mr. Robert Kuzoe, the Executive Secretary of the MTN Ghana Foundation, briefing the press in Accra at the weekend on the progress of activities said, “We are on course with our schedule for the essay competition, which will lead to the award of scholarships.”
Participants from the 10 regions wrote an essay on the topic: “How to manage refuse in Ghana while motivating citizens to keep their environment clean,” for which they would be selected for the awards scheme.
He said the scheme would give pre-tertiary students all over the country an opportunity to win the ultimate prize a GH¢10,000.00 scholarship to fund their tertiary education.
He added that scripts received from MTN Ghana Foundation’s essay competition were currently being reviewed by management.
Mr Kuzoe said the top 100 scripts would be initially selected after all the entries had been marked. The best 30 participants would be invited for a sit-in examination and interview to enable the judges select the final 10 winners.
“Details of entrants, who qualify for the final interview and that of the overall winners of the competition, will be made available in print and electronic media,” he noted.
Beneficiaries will be selected to attend institutions including Sunyani, Ho, Bolgatanga, Wa, Koforidua polytechnics, University of Ghana, Cape Coast University, University of Development Studies, Tarkwa School of Mines and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
