Ivory Coast gives 10m CFA to support Mills’ funeral
Mr Bernard Ehui , Ivoirian Ambassador, has donated traditional Ivorian burial items and an amount of 10,000,000 CFA to the Funeral Planning Committee of the late President
The items include pomade, powder, combs, towels, bedsheets, six pieces of Kente cloth, forty boxes of assorted alcoholic beverages and five cows.
The donation was made by the Ambassador and a delegation of some Chiefs including Nanan Amon Tanoe , King of Nzemaa- Kotoko in Cote d’Ivoire who is the leader of the Ivorian traditional rulers.
Mr Ehui said the Ivoirian President, Alassane Ouatarra, would be arriving in Ghana on Friday to lead the delegation to mourn the late President and with Ghanaians for the great loss.
He also presented additional 2,000,000 CFA on behalf of President Alassane Ouatarra to the Fante Chiefs in Ghana, 3,000,000 CFA to the family of the late President Mills and 5,000,000 CFA to the widow and son.
mbassador Ehui said one impact made by the late President Mills on Ivorians was in helping to attain peace in Cote d’Ivoire during their conflict and wished him fare well.
Ms Akua Sena Densua, member of the Funeral Planning Committee who received the items on behalf of the state, thanked the President and people of Cote d’Ivoire for the show of solidarity.
She said Ghana would continue to build on the good relationship that exists between the two countries.
Ms Densua also presented two schnapps to the delegation to take back to their country to inform the people that Ghana appreciates their gesture.
In a related development, the General Manager of Irani Brothers, Mr Reginald Sackey-Addo, has also donated fifty bags of flour and a cheque of GH¢20,000 to the Funeral Planning Committee to support the funeral of the late President.
Mr Collins Asante- Sekyi, Account Manager, CBC Beverages (Bottlers of Pepsi) also donated forty boxes of bottled water and 200 bags of sachet water to the Funeral Committee.
Mr Ken Kanda, a member of the Funeral Committee, thanked the two companies for the gesture saying the numerous donation received show the love the people have for the departed President.
He said “with the kind of donation the Funeral Committee is receiving, we might not spend a penny on the funeral, contrary to what is being speculated in the media”.
