FAO supports Forestry Forum with ICT equipment

The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has made available furnishing and office equipment totalling GH¢25,000.00 in support of the National Forestry Forum-Ghana.

Among the package were 11 laptop computers and accessories, including modems and printers.

The assistance came under the National Forest Programme (NFP) facility.

Mr Edward Obiaw, Director of Resource Management Support, Forestry Commission (FC), presented the items on the sidelines of a two-day national executive council meeting of the Forum held in the Ejisu-Juaben Municipality.

He said these were meant to help strengthen and enhance the activities of the Forum, a civil society organization, working to promote grass roots involvement in forest management.

The support from the FAO was a demonstration of its eagerness to see the organization adequately empowered to effectively participate in forest governance to bring transparency, accountability and equity in benefits-sharing within the forestry sector.

Mr Alex Asare, Head of the FC’s Collaborative Programme, Resource Management Support Centre, urged the Forum to maintain high level of transparency in its operations.

Mr Kwame Asamoah-Dwomoh, National President of the Forum, expressed appreciation to the FAO for the assistance and pledged to take good care of them and ensure that they served the intended purpose.
