Gov’t, financial firms urged to support book publishers
The Reverend Samuel Nana Ghartey, Senior Pastor of Mount Zion Assemblies of God Church at Nsuta in the Sekyere Central District, has said lack of finance is a major obstacle that affects publishers and appealed to the government and other financial institutions to support them with credit facilities.
He said other factors including high taxes on imported materials like papers, inks, chemicals, rampant changes of government policies as well as poor reading habit also affected their capability to come out with books.
Rev. Ghartey was speaking at the launch of a book entitled “Achieving Godly Vision” at Old Tafo in Kumasi at the weekend.
The 96-page book was authored by the Rev. Elvis Kwadwo Sarpong, a Reverend Minister of the True Worshipers Assemblies of God Church at Old Tafo in Kumasi.
The topics in the book include Holiness, God’s Awesome Power, Prayer-Life, Apostolic Blessings, Unprecedented Faith, Aggressive Mission and Perfect Marriage.
He said the book was divided into three major sections including attitude towards God, Ourselves and mankind, and appealed to Christians to have faith in God as well as pray unceasingly to Him to help them achieve their ambitions.
Rev. Ghartey commended the author for the book and appealed to students, researchers, religious leaders and others to patronize the book to improve their scope of learning.
Rev. Sarpong said he was motivated to write the book to help stock them in libraries for students and other members of the public to patronize them.
He said achieving Godly vision depended on holiness, faith and one’s mission, and urged Christians to be committed and dedicated to the worship of God.
Rev. Sarpong who is also the Old Tafo District Pastor, stressed the need for Ghanaians to preach the message of peace towards the 2012 elections.
He announced that his second book entitled “A Day Heaven Became Empty” and third one “Achieving Godly Vision Part Two” would also be published next year.
The author appealed to the government to waive high taxes on imported materials in the publishing sector to motivate publishers to write more books.
The first three books were sold for GH¢2,100.00
