Ruling NDC elects Ghana President Mahama to run 2012 elections

Ghana’s ruling party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has elected President John Dramani Mahama as its flagbearer for the 2012 presidential elections.

At a day’s delegates congress in Kumasi August 30, 2012, President Mahama received almost 100% (99.5%) of the total votes cast. The party last year elected the Late Prof John Atta Mills as its 2012 flagbearer but he died July 24, 2012 after falling ill.

The party will officially outdoor its 2012 campaign at an event still in Kumasi, where President Mahama is expected to give remarks on his election.

John Mahama will face opposition candidates Nana Akufo-Addo of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Abu Sakara of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP), Alhassan Ayariga of the Peoples National Convention (PNC), and Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom of the Progressive Peoples Party (PPP) in the December 7 polls, an election analysts say will be tight to know the winner.
